75 Years...Don't Waste Them!

Updated: Mar 25, 2023

Beep! Beep! Beep! Hearing my alarm, I slowly opened my eyes and caught a glimpse of the time…6 AM. The new sun peeked through the crack in the bedroom curtains, and I lay there letting my eyes adjust to the dim light in the room. I spied the purple duffle bag sitting next to the bedroom door and popped out of bed remembering it was vacation departure day! I hurried to get ready

knowing we would be leaving in an hour. As I prepared myself for departure, I let my mind conjure up all kinds of ideas about what new experiences would transpire during the next two weeks.

Oh, how I anticipated every August all the way through high school. This was the time of year we would load up our 1969 Volkswagen Bus with the six of us and trek across the US to camp, visit a national park, explore historical sites, or visit family in another area of the country. These trips were the highlight of my youth.

We didn’t have a lot of money, but my parents made sure travel was a priority. We camped and picnicked and visited places that were free or essential enough to warrant the small cost. It was a budget friendly trip rich in learning and unforgettable experiences. Today I appreciate how they prioritized the importance of travel not just for fun and relaxation but also to learn about ourselves and the world. These experiences created a wanderlust in me that refuses to be squelched.

To quote Eddie Murphy in the 1998 movie, Holy Man:

75 years…that’s how much time you get if you’re lucky. 75 winters, 75 spring times, 75 summers, and 75 autumns. When you look at it like that, it’s not a lot of time, is it? Don’t waste them. Get your head out of the rat race. Forget about the superficial things that preoccupy your existence and get back to what’s important now.

Travel is important and essential. Everyone should venture out to discover new places, immerse themselves in the culture and learn more about themselves in the process.

My goal is to help you curate and navigate your own treasured travel experiences. I plan to provide valuable insights based on personal and researched adventures and inspire you to set aside any excuses and find a way to travel now!
